March 7, 2019, was the annual one-day event to celebrate the contribution of women leaders and their positive affect on businesses in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The Women’s Leadership Conference (WLC) inspired those who attended, providing tools to be better leaders. The theme of this year’s conference was Herstory: The Power of Perseverance. Conference participants attended sessions such as ‘Finding Peace During the Storm’ and ‘Determining When Patience is a Virtue and When It’s Not’ that focused on channeling their strength, power, and tenacity.
Sheela Murthy, Founder of Murthy Law Firm, was keynote speaker for the event held at Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Maryland. In her speech, Murthy also shared some of her story, as well as her personal mantras and advice for women who want to become leaders with integrity. She stressed the importance of having an “attitude of gratitude” and being thankful to one’s parents and families for their love and support. A big factor in her success was practicing three common characteristics of all leaders: defining a vision and personal goals, a willingness to work hard, and the ability to learn and grow from negative experiences, and she gave concrete examples of how to incorporate these tenants into everyday life. She ended her speech with a moving call to action for all the women in the audience, to embrace their own unique strengths and talents to become the inspirational leaders of tomorrow.
