On Thursday, April 7, 2016, Dr. John D. Groopman, Professor of Environmental Health Services at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will speak on Global Cancer: The Future of Chronic Diseases, as part of the Murthy/Reihl Global Education Leadership Lecture Series. The series is funded by an endowment from Sheela Murthy, in memory of her good friend, Donna Reihl, former Dean of Community Education and Service at the Community College of Baltimore County, who passed away in 2011.
“The intent of the Murthy/Reihl Lecture Series is to open the minds and hearts of college students to the importance of global issues, regardless of where they choose to work and what they choose to do,” says Sheela Murthy, a native of India, who believes that the greatness of the United States rests in our openness and encouragement toward immigrants from all over the world, who come offering their talents and their hard work. “The future success of our next generation depends on students realizing the importance of a global economy and embracing it.” [See CCBC Murthy/Reihl Global Leadership Lecture Explores Global Cancer: The Future of Chronic Diseases, Baltimore Sun (29.Mar.2016).
