Sheela Murthy became a member of the prestigious Tocqueville Society of the United Way with her pledged donation of $1 million in 2008. Over the last decade she has given her time, talent, and treasure to United Way International and the United Way of Central Maryland, as well as the Women’s Leadership Council. Murthy believes strongly in giving back to the community, and has been doing so proactively since the events of 9/11 in 2001. When terrorists took to the skies to attack Americans as we would not have believed possible, Murthy and her husband, Vasant Nayak, responded by establishing the MurthyNAYAK Foundation.
The United Way is present in communities around the world, identifying the most pressing need and connecting those with the interest and capacity to offer help. Murthy and fellow women come together, as community leaders, to wish the Tocqueville Society a happy anniversary in this, its 125th year.
