As leader of one of the preeminent firms in the world of immigration law, Murthy Law Firm founder and President Sheela Murthy has a whirlwind daily schedule filled with meetings, consultations, community and social functions. About twice a year, however, Sheela makes time to visit her native India to spend time with her mother, sisters, and nieces. She also conducts work for clients, performs speaking engagements and interviews, and participates in activities designed to inform and serve the Indian community. And, in between all of these engagements, she still squeezes in some time to reconnect with friends and extended family.
Most recently, Sheela returned to India last month. Her visit included a trip to the U.S. Consulate in Chennai, where, along with two attorneys from our affiliate, Murthy Immigration Services, Pvt. Ltd. (www.murthyindia.com), Sheela met with representatives from the consular information unit. Sheela took the time to address several important immigration issues with the consulate officials there, on behalf of Murthy Law Firm clients.
Several speaking engagements were also on the Sheela’s roster during her trip, including a keynote address at the third annual American Bazaar IT Conclave in Bangalore, which she has participated in every year. The conference included many high-level business executives from the United States, and focused on emerging trends and innovations in the U.S. tech sector. In a live Q&A, broadcasted on the popular Hyderabad FM radio station, Radio Mirchi, Sheela took live questions on immigration from callers on the air, and the response from listeners was so enthusiastic that her segment ran well over the allotted time. Immediately following her radio slot, Sheela was interviewed by a group of university students on ETV, a well-known television station. She listened and offered her perspective as the students voiced concerns over current issues facing India’s youth, including a recent controversy that was sparked when students from Andra Pradesh were denied admission to the U.S. on F-1 visas. Sheela capped off her visit to India with a meet-and-greet at the Hyderabad chapter of the ITServe Alliance, a global association of companies in the IT and technology sectors. Tech entrepreneurs gathered to meet Sheela and listen to her advice on business immigration.
While guiding the Murthy Law Firm is always Sheela’s top priority, she values the chance to spend time with family and friends in India, and is sought after to share her experience and expertise with the communities she visits there. Sheela loves both her native country of India and her adopted home country of the United States. By spending time in both nations, she is able to share her passion for immigration matters with a global audience.
