On a recent trip to India, Sheela Murthy, founder and president of the Murthy Law Firm, participated in two important conferences that specifically focused on India’s explosive IT sector and the need in the United States to attract such talent to businesses there.
The American Bazaar IT Conclave held its second annual event on January 24th at the Vivanta by Taj. More than a dozen tech entrepreneurs, CEOs and information technology executives from the United States and India spoke at this year’s event, and Sheela Murthy was one of them. Among the nearly 200 delegates that attended were young IT professionals and budding entrepreneurs from Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India.
Murthy was also in attendance for the 2014 Conclave. This year she gave a special address, in which she told her own inspiring story as a woman in a field dominated by men, and as an immigrant and a woman of color, far from her home. Ms. Murthy was accompanied by Mr. Senthil Kumar and Mr. Gnanamookan, attorneys from Murthy Immigration Services, Pvt. Ltd., which is the Murthy Law Firm’s only affiliate law firm in India. The three attorneys conducted a workshop on U.S. immigration law that focused on H1B and L-1 visas, those most commonly used by Indian IT professionals.
Also held in India’s IT capital, the well-attended ITechLaw, Asia-Pacific Conference was held January 28th through the 30th at the JW Marriott. It was for legal professionals who focus specifically on industries that rely on information technology to drive their businesses. It focused on the latest issues related to regulatory, commercial, and technology matters with which emerging and growth industries are faced in India and Asia, as well as the U.S. and Europe. Attendees included a cross-section of senior professionals, including lawyers and legal advisors, corporate counsel, technology entrepreneurs, legal consultants, finance heads, ICT professionals, judges and enforcement officers and others from around the world.
On Friday, January 30th, Ms. Murthy participated in a panel that offered updates on immigration laws in the Australia, the EU, and the United States. The Murthy Law Firm was a sponsor of this global gathering.
